St.Sebastian Visitation Hospital is the golden milestone of the apostolic ministry of the Visitation Congregation. It provides health care to a fairly good number of people in the district of Alleppey, especially the poor people in the coastal area of the Diocese of Alleppey. It had a humble beginning during the tenure of Rev. Sr. Mary Jain as the Superior General. It was started as a dispensary in a small room of St. Sebastian’s Convent parlour with the the help of Rev. Fr. Dennis Aroujo on 18th March 1966. Sr. Mary Justina, the first trained nurse was entrusted with this healing ministry. In the year 1969 Hospital building was constructed and it was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael Arattukulam, the then prelate of the diocese of Alleppey on 25th July 1972. This 30 bedded building was constructed by the financial assistance rendered by Misereor. Fr. Joseph Koilparambil S.J. was instrumental in getting the project sanctioned. Gradually with tremendous hard work and continuous perseverance the institution began to grow and at present by the grace of God Almighty, the Divine Healer, this institution has become a multispeciality hospital. A Nursing School has been started as well. We remember with gratitude all our pioneers who struggled for the growth and development of this institution and all who served this institution tirelessly. We also would like to remember with gratitude the visitation congregation and pray for all our well-wishers, benefactors and the people who have been recipients of our healing services through this institution. We know for sure and believe that it is not we, but the Lord is working through us. May the mighty name of the Lord be glorified through us. We thank you Lord for the innumerable blessings and graces which you have showered upon us through the intercession of our patron St. Sebastian, the saint of the sick and the suffering.
